A new ice chopper idea which consists of a regular ice chopping blade and handle. The new idea added to an existing basic chopper is an impacting sliding weight with an energy storing spring above it.
There's a floating stop between the blade and the weight assembly to isolate shock generated by the weight impacting the blade from the handle.
The mechanism operates as you drive the chopper downward towards the ice the impacting weight slides upward compressing the energy storing spring.
As the blade strikes the ice the spring propels the impacting weight downwards striking the blade. This effectively gives the stubborn ice a secondary shock and shatters it.
This new idea greatly reduces the effort needed for strenuous sidewalk ice chopping.
